More Frequent Dialysis

Currently Medicare typically reimburses for only three hemodialysis treatments per week except when medical necessity dictates more frequency. DPC feels that patients should have the freedom to choose the option to dialyze more frequently.

Numerous studies have shown that many patients who dialyze on a more frequent basis (either short daily or nocturnal dialysis) have better clinical outcomes, reduced rates of hospitalization, decreased need for medication, and improved blood pressure. As a result, patients who receive more frequent dialysis are often able to continue working and experience an enhanced quality of life. DPC supports increasing the ESRD Medicare Benefit to cover more frequent dialysis—thus improving patient outcomes and increasing the quality of life for patients.
