Check out our Patient Ambassador Spotlight, where we highlight members who elevate the voices of people with kidney disease.
This month’s Spotlight is on Sheree Stephens from Shreveport, Louisiana.
Sheree is the care partner for her husband, Kenneth, and for the past decades has helped manage his care. From peritoneal dialysis to home hemodialysis to kidney transplant, she has been by his side and seen it all.
Having lived through these experiences with her husband has made Sheree deeply concerned about the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Marietta vs. DaVita. It allows private insurers to design plans that make it harder for new dialysis patients to stay on their insurance. That can disrupt care, cause financial distress, limit provider options, and even jeopardize eligibility for a kidney transplant.
This is what Sheree is urging her congressman, Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Benton, alongside U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow, R-Start, to help by cosponsoring the Restore Protections for Dialysis Patients Act. Sheree has seen how hard dialysis patients fight to manage their condition - they shouldn’t have to fight well-deserved insurance coverage as well.
