I am a longtime resident of the Pacific Northwest, originally from Portland, Oregon, and now living in Vancouver, Washington with my wife and our dog, KOKO. I was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in February 2012 as a result of hypertension. My years on dialysis—six and a half in total—gave me a deep understanding of the challenges faced by kidney patients and strengthened my commitment to supporting others living with kidney disease.
My advocacy work began with Dialysis Patient Citizens (DPC), where I was inspired by their dedication to improving patient care and protecting the rights of individuals with kidney disease. Serving on the DPC Board of Directors has further shaped my perspective on self-advocacy, health management, and the importance of ensuring patient voices are heard. In 2018, I received a kidney transplant, an experience that reinforced my belief that dialysis and the people who support us can truly save lives.
My diagnosis also marked a turning point in my personal life. It motivated me to make meaningful changes, and I am proud to have recently celebrated 14 years of sobriety.
Outside of advocacy, my greatest joy comes from spending time with my two grandsons. I am also passionate about coaching youth baseball and giving back to the community I call home.
