It was a cold and rainy Tuesday, when dialysis patients, family members and healthcare providers descended on Capitol Hill to meet with legislators about expanding coordinated care efforts. This was a record setting year for the advocacy day, beginning with the application process which saw over 150 applicants and ending with the number of meetings held, 142. Each year, Dialysis Patient Citizens is proud to bring dialysis patients to Washington, D.C. in order to meet with their legislators about the issues affecting patients nationwide. This year, we are pleased to have hosted 25 dialysis patients and their family members from across the country. Patients arrived to Washington, D.C. and were greeted by an informal networking dinner to meet new advocates and re-connect with veteran advocates. After weeks of planning, Dialysis Patient Citizens welcomed 30 patients and family members to Washington, D.C. to meet with their legislators on a beautiful spring day in April for our annual advocacy day. As you may know, last year our advocates were snowed in so we were very grateful for the warmer temperatures this time around! DPC’s annual Kidney Month fly-in was held last Wednesday and Thursday (March 4 & 5).  Patient advocates from across the country flew to Washington, DC to speak with their Members of Congress on issues critical to their care.  And despite numerous obstacles, they made sure their voices were heard. DPC advocates flew to Washington, DC for our 2014 World Kidney Day Fly-in. Twenty-six patients and family members were joined by 19 provider representatives from 24 states. Advocates conducted 94 meetings with Members of Congress and their staff. This year, we asked Congress to protect funding for the Medicare ESRD program and to open Medicare Part C to people on dialysis. Take a look at these pictures for the full story. 2014 World Kidney Day Fly-In

Dialysis Patient Citizens (DPC) will be hosting our annual World Kidney Day Fly-In from March 11 to March 13, 2014.  Twenty-eight patients and family members from 23 states will arrive in Washington, DC to speak to nearly 100 Congressional offices about issues that affect people with kidney failure.  In addition, the group will be joined by 17 dialysis facility professionals who will help amplify their message.  The day prior to visiting Capitol Hill, participants will receive a comprehensive issue briefing and advocacy training from DPC staff.
